The new Star Trek film, which opens worldwide next month, premiered in Sydney, Australia, last night. Early reports on the new film, which effectively reboots the franchise for the 21st Century, have been positive so far.

Just as we predicted last week, Paramount Pictures is already moving forward with a sequel to its upcoming Star Trek film for release in 2011, hiring Roberto Orci, Alex Kutzman and Damon Lindelof to write it.

Paramount has extended its overall deal with J.J. Abrams Bad Robot Productions, keeping the company on the lot through 2013. That extension suggest that not only does Paramount recognize the success of the company behind TV series Lost and Fringe, but could indicate a second Star Trek film will be greenlit, even before the first 'reboot' movie is released worldwide on 8 May.
